Unity hosts 7-on-7 games

TOLONO — The Unity football team hosted St. Joseph-Ogden and Gibson City-Melvin Sibley's football programs for some 7-on-7 summer football games Wednesday. The Rockets starting squad took on GCMS while SJ-O competed against Unity's No. 2 offense in the first set of games, then the Spartans split up their roster and took on Unity and GCMS.

The practice was the first of three for both Unity and St. Joseph-Ogden this summer. The Rockets will also host a 7-on-7 practice next Wednesday before playing in a tournament at Washington July 25, while SJ-O will play at Maroa-Forsyth July 25 and Tuscola on July 31. The Spartans also have summer football camp scheduled from July 27-31.

The IHSA opens the 2009 football season in August, with the first games of the year on Aug. 28. Make sure to pick up the Leader and County Star for detailed football coverage come August.
